Mission Statement
Central Minnesota Council on Aging is committed to maintaining the highest level of independence of older people by developing and coordinating community care, reducing isolation, and improving access to services.
Who we are
Central Minnesota Council on Aging (CMCOA) is a non-profit organization designated by the Minnesota Board on Aging (MBA) as the area agency on aging for the 14-county Central Minnesota region. In partnership with public and private organizations, CMCOA helps older adults age successfully by building community capacity, advocating for aging issues, maximizing service effectiveness, and linking people with information.
Who we serve
CMCOA serves the communities within Benton, Cass, Chisago, Crow Wing, Isanti, Kanabec, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Pine, Sherburne, Stearns, Todd, Wadena, and Wright counties.
Funding, Grants, and Contracts
As an area agency on aging, CMCOA is a pivotal link between community supports for older adults and their caregivers, and the state and federal funding for these services. Using a planning process to review needs and trends, CMCOA awards federal Older Americans Act grants and contracts to local agencies for in-home long- term care services. These services are critical to help people live at home without falling into the public safety net.
Community Development
CMCOA provides planning assistance on aging issues, trends, and service development needs for the 14-county planning and service area. This is accomplished using a variety of tools to collect and analyze data to engage stakeholders. We help community organizations better serve older adults and support family caregivers through consultation. This includes helping providers design services; providing workshops on sustainable business practices; convening stakeholders to facilitate improvements in service delivery and systems integration; and we provide technical assistance to increase individual agencies’ capacity to develop or expand their services. Current focus is on:
- Leveraging the experience, expertise, and energy of older adults throughout the region.
- Equipping older adults with the tools to take charge of their health and make informed decisions about services when they need them.
- Supporting family and friends in their caregiving roles.
- Supporting aging in community with access to a range of services and housing options.
Senior LinkAge Line
CMCOA provides Senior LinkAge Line services as an agency on aging. The Senior LinkAge Line is a free, statewide service of the Minnesota Board on Aging in partnership with Minnesota’s area agencies on aging. The Senior LinkAge Line helps older Minnesotans and caregivers find answers and connect to the services and support they need.
